Sweet bell pepper is one of the most popular vegetable crops. The hybrid Winnie the Pooh variety was bred by Moldovan breeders in the second half of the 20th century. This vegetable is suitable for growing in a greenhouse and on unprotected soil.
Variety Characteristics
The main advantage of this species is considered to be its early maturity both in open ground and in the greenhouse. About 100 days will pass from the moment the first sprouts appear until the harvest. Culture itself has phenomenal endurance for disease.
An excellent percentage of seedlings show the seeds of the variety "Winnie the Pooh." The shrub will please with a sufficiently large number of crops (8-10 fruits from one bush) and its ripening at the same time.
Pepper is characterized by remarkable taste, bright appearance and ability to long-term storage and transportation. This vegetable is perfect for salads, marinating and stuffing. Ripe fruits can be stored for a whole year.
Description
The height of the adult bush of Winnie the Pooh pepper reaches 30 cm, which gives an excellent opportunity to grow this vegetable even in small greenhouses. The leaves are small in size, have a rich green color, resemble an egg in shape. Ripe pepper fruits are characterized by a sharp cone shape. The peduncle is not depressed, the surface is even and smooth. On average, each fruit has 2-3 chambers with seeds.
The average weight of one ripe pepper reaches 50 g, and the wall thickness is 5 mm. Upon reaching technical maturity, the vegetable acquires a light green hue. A fully ripe fruit is rich in red. The yield indicators of the variety "Winnie the Pooh" do not exceed 4-5 kg with 2 sq. M. It is possible to grow such pepper in the summer on open soil, and in the spring - in greenhouses.
The advantages of this variety include:
- high resistance to diseases;
- the possibility of dense planting of bushes;
- the possibility of long-term storage.
Growing seedlings
10-14 days before transplanting, the seeds are placed in a piece of wet tissue. On day 7-10, the grains will hatch, and small sprouts can be seen on the surface. Then they are planted in pre-prepared containers with drainage holes in the lower part. A plastic glass can act as a pot. From above, such containers are covered with a lid or tightened with a film. The first shoots will signal that it is time to shoot. Otherwise, the sprouts will stretch and greatly weaken.
Note! Young seedlings of the Winnie the Pooh variety are extremely difficult to tolerate any transplant. Therefore, the dive process should be excluded, and the seeds should be planted immediately in a separate container.
Good seedling seedlings can be obtained under certain conditions:
- Constant maintenance of the temperature regime not lower than +20 ° С.
- Watering is carried out slowly, not cold water.
- At night, the ambient temperature must be lowered to + 16 ° C.
- Plants should be protected from sudden changes in climate and drafts.

Transplanting seedlings
When the seedlings reach the age of 55-60 days, the time comes to transplant it into the ground. For stable growth and development of the bush, the temperature of the soil should not be lower than 15 ° C. Increased fruitfulness can be achieved by dense planting of bushes. The place of pepper planting should be lit up as much as possible by sunlight and ventilated.
Watering plants should be done at least 8-10 times a month with warm, and preferably purified water. Too cold water can cause the root system to rot. In addition, it is worthwhile to carefully monitor temperature readings in open ground or in a greenhouse. This variety of bell pepper is quite hard going through hot, dry weather. Greenhouse shrubs additionally need constant monitoring of air humidity.
Fertilizers
Feeding the soil with mineral and organic fertilizers is recommended no more than 1 time per week. But weeding the ground and removing unnecessary weeds is worth several times a week. This procedure will help the air flow to nourish the soil, and moisture to the root system will come up faster.
Also, a homemade mixture called “green kvass” is perfect for fertilizer. To prepare it, a large container is filled with green grass, bread and yeast. The top of the container should be closed in order to avoid the ingestion of various insects. Within 7-8 days, the product should ferment under the influence of sunlight. At the end of the period, 1-1.5 liters of fertilizer are collected per bucket of water and pepper is watered.
Gardeners recommend removing the lower ovaries on the bushes. Thus, all the strength of growth will rush to the upper fruits.
Disease resistance
The main advantage of the Winnie the Pooh hybrid is its high resistance to various diseases and pests. But sometimes aphids can form on pepper leaves. At its first appearance, shrubs should be sprayed with a solution based on wood ash or onion peel.
