However, they still have one unique feature in appearance - these are their blue eyes. Previously, only Angora cats were distinguished by this feature, but nowadays, okhoz azules compete with them. Their uniqueness is that they do not have the genes of the more popular Angora. In the Russian regions they are very rare specimens, but you can find them.

Breed history

Ojos Azules did not appear due to the efforts of breeders. The history of this breed is much more interesting. The homeland of this cat is USA. A local farmer from the American hinterland accidentally found a tortoise cat with dark blue eyes. It was this detail that played a decisive factor in the life of a cat, which became the progenitor of a new cat breed. The farmer took this blue-eyed beauty to himself, and soon she acquired offspring from a neighboring local cat. To the great surprise of the owners, the kittens also had brighter blue eyes. This story happened in the mid-eighties of the last century.

It is not surprising that the descendants of the blue-eyed turtle were to the taste of the friends and neighbors of the cat's owner. Yes, so much so that soon, namely in 1991, the Okhos Azules was registered as a separate breed.

Since 2004, this breed has been approved in show competitions in the PNB category: Pre-Recognized New Breeds. Ochos azules is a fairly common cat breed in the United States, but they are still little known in the countries of the former Soviet Union.
