Hair lamination: what is it and how to do it?

Well, what woman doesn’t dream of looking perfect from the tips of her fingers to the crown of her head? But, unfortunately, modern living conditions only worsen the appearance of hair. Constant hot styling, the use of various thermal devices, frequent dyeing and drying make the hair lifeless, dull, weak. To restore your hair to its former healthy, shiny and vibrant look, you need to use lamination.

What is hair lamination?

What is lamination?

This is a cosmetic procedure, the principle of which is to cover the hair with a thin film of a special substance that protects the strands from external influences. This film is usually made on the basis of cellulose - it is not washed off with shampoo for a long time and allows oxygen to pass through, so the hair shaft “breathes”. Lamination can be considered both an aesthetic and a healing procedure, because the hair is not only transformed, but also restored.

Previously, lamination was simple and color. Simple lamination is the application of a conventional protective layer based on proteins, vitamins and cellulose. Color lamination is combined with dyeing, when the shade of the strands changes simultaneously. Today in the market of the beauty industry you can find bio-lamination - when natural cellulose is included in the protective film. Phytolamination involves the use of extracts of medicinal plants. You can also use a more saturated component instead of a simple protective layer, due to which the hair turns out to be unusually smooth and shiny. This procedure is called glazing. In addition, lamination can be done at home, on the basis of a gelatin mask, but the effect will not be so noticeable. And such lamination will be washed off in a shorter time. Let's consider in more detail what lamination does with our hair.

How lamination affects hair

Lamination is becoming an increasingly popular procedure, many famous actresses and show business stars simply cannot imagine their hair without lamination. And that's why.

  1. During lamination, the hair is covered with a thin film, due to which the curls become smooth, shiny, radiant. Such hair is easier to comb, the ponytail is simply stunning.
  2. As each hair is wrapped in a thin protective film, the total volume of hair increases significantly. The strands become visually thick and lush.
  3. The film with which the hair is covered is called protective, because it protects the hair shaft from UV radiation, high temperatures of thermal devices, varnishes and other chemicals.
  4. Lamination allows you to solder split ends and save hair from brittleness.
  5. If the lamination procedure is done after dyeing, this will preserve the shade of the hair for much longer.

Any procedure has its own indications and contraindications, lamination is no exception. It is not recommended to apply a protective layer on hair that is prone to hair loss. The fact is that even a small layer of cellulose can make the strand heavier and lead to premature hair loss. For the same reason, it is not recommended to laminate on too long hair - from the severity of hair can begin to fall out. Another contraindication for the procedure is various wounds and sores on the scalp. Before the procedure, they need to be cured. Lamination has several disadvantages.

  1. After washing, the hair dries longer than usual.
  2. Laminated hair does not hold perms well, you only have to walk with straight hair.
  3. To keep the lamination for a long time, you will have to use special cosmetics for your hair.
  4. After lamination, the hair should not be dyed.
  5. To keep the effect of shiny and smooth hair constantly, the procedure should be carried out every 4-6 weeks.
  6. Lamination is an expensive pleasure, especially if the procedure is done regularly.

If you are ready to put up with these shortcomings (for someone quite insignificant), then you can proceed to the lamination procedure.

How to make lamination in the cabin

To understand the principle of lamination, you need to go through all the stages of the salon procedure.

How to make lamination in the cabin

  1. To begin with, the hair is washed with a special shampoo, the acidity of which is higher than 8. This tool helps to thoroughly get rid of impurities and residues of sebum.
  2. The next stage is the application of a special regenerating composition to the hair, which penetrates the revealed scales of the hair and nourishes the hair shaft from the inside. After applying this product, the hair is heated with a special cap to enhance the effect of the composition.
  3. Next, special vitamin products, oils, and a booster are applied to the hair. All this is aimed at restoring hair.
  4. After various wellness treatments, a five-minute cooling must be carried out. This is done so that all the flakes that open are closed.
  5. The last stage is the application of a finishing agent (laminate). After it, the hair becomes even, smooth.
  6. Then the strands are dried, but this should only be done in a very delicate mode so that the film just applied does not melt from high temperatures.
  7. It is very important to know the rules for hair care after lamination. You need to use special shampoos for laminated hair. It is less aggressive and will help keep the protective layer on your hair for as long as possible. In the first 2-3 days after the procedure, the head should not be washed, hair should not be pinned, twisted, or deformed.

The effect of the lamination procedure is noticeable almost immediately. You will leave the salon with incredibly smooth, silky and shining hair. But is it possible to achieve such results at home?

Is it possible to do lamination yourself

If lamination is expensive, and the dream of beautiful and silky hair is still alive, you can try to carry out the procedure yourself, using improvised means.

Mix a tablespoon of gelatin with three tablespoons of warm water, allow to swell in a warm place for about half an hour. While the gelatin mask is preparing for use, you can wash your hair - use a shampoo without silicone. Gelatin should dissolve completely so that there are no lumps left in it. Mix the prepared gelatin mass with a tablespoon of hair balm and carefully apply the mixture along the entire length of wet hair. Do not apply the product on the scalp - back off the roots about 2-3 cm. Then you need to wrap the hair with a film, wrap a towel, warm it with a hairdryer, and rinse off with warm water after half an hour. The effect of home lamination lasts about 2-3 weeks.

Lamination is a real salvation for dull, dry and lifeless hair. Often after unsuccessful dyeing or constant aggressive exposure, the hair has to be cut. Using the lamination procedure, you can maintain the length, beauty and health of your hair.
